Wool
Wool is one of the major craft products in Baltistan, it is found in abundance in the region. Wool is resourced from yak, goats, sheep and rabbits. Traditionally the person who produces woolen goods is known as Jolaha which literally means weaver in Urdu. The families of weavers who had been associated with the craft through generations are now almost extent. The production of woolen crafts which consist of shawls, rugs and runners goes on all year. However, summer is more productive whereas winter is relatively slower.
Basketry
Is a local craft that is still readily practiced in the region. It is more of a need than a decorative or a cultural product. Baskets are used to carry fruits and vegetables down from the orchards, such as apricots, apples, cherries and potatoes. The men and women wear the baskets like a backpack to support their movement and carry out the weight easily. The willow tree is used for making baskets as well as wall panels used in local construction methods.
